Classification of spiral steel pipe


SSAW, which is short for spiral submerged arc welded, is the steel pipe with spiral weld seam that using steel coil as raw material, extrusion forming under normal temperature, and welding by double-sided submerged arc welding technology.

We can devide SSAW steel pipe per its usage:

The first kind of SSAW steel pipe is used for pressurized fluid transportation is mainly used for conveying oil and natural gas pipeline.

The second kind if used for pressurized fluid transportation, it is welded with high-frequency welding method. The loading capacity of it is powerful, the plastic is good, and it is easy to weld and machine shaping.

The third kind is used for general low-pressure fluid transmission, it is welded with double-sided automatic submerged arc welding method or one-side  welding method, it is mainly used for water, gas, air and steam and other general low-pressure fluid delivery.

Now general standards for spiral submerged arc welded steel pipe is generally divided into: ministerial standard, also known as spiral submerged arc welded steel pipe for ordinary fluid transportation pipeline, also known as pipe for oil and gas industry transportation, API 5L (including PSL1 and PSL2), spiral submerged arc welded pipe for pile.
